DHL, the world’s leading logistics group and Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1®, recognized Lewis Hamilton as the winner of the DHL Fastest Lap Award 2015 at a special ceremony during the 2015 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX. With the fastest lap at eight races during the entire Championship, Hamilton had already secured an unassailable lead at the FORMULA 1 GRANDE PREMIO PETROBRAS DO BRASIL 2015, ahead of MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ teammate Nico Rosberg, who ended the season with five fastest laps. The victory completes a historic treble for the second consecutive year for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ team. The team won the Formula One™ Constructors’ World Championship, with Lewis Hamilton winning the FIA Formula One™ Drivers’ World
Championship and the DHL Fastest Lap Award.
“I am delighted to have won the DHL Fastest Lap Award again in 2015. It caps a phenomenal year for everyone in the Mercedes team. Winning the FIA Formula One™ Drivers’ World Championship and the Constructors Title, and setting fastest lap eight times along the way – this all reflects the hard work and competitive spirit that define the team,” said Lewis Hamilton.
This is the second time that Hamilton and the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team have won the DHL Fastest Lap Award. “It’s a great honor to present the DHL Fastest Lap Award to Lewis Hamilton for the second year in a row. Speed and the desire to be first across the line every time are attributes that resonate very closely with DHL, both in our daily business and in our role as Official Logistics Partner of Formula One™. Lewis Hamilton’s determination and constant pursuit of excellence are an inspiration to 325,000 men and women in DHL red and yellow around the world,” said Nour Suliman, CEO DHL Express Middle East & North Africa, who handed over the award at a special ceremony at the Abu Dhabi race track.
The DHL Fastest Lap Award was established in 2007 to recognize the driver who most consistently demonstrates pure speed, with the fastest lap at the highest number of races each season. Since it was founded, the award has been won by five different drivers. Sebastian Vettel holds the record for the number of DHL Fastest Lap Awards, with three victories in the competition. This year’s winner Hamilton is in joint second place alongside Finnish driver Kimi Raikonen, with two DHL Fastest Lap Awards apiece. Hamilton recorded the fastest laps in 2015 in Abu Dhabi, Australia, China, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Brazil. Each time he posted a fastest lap in a race during the 2015 season, the Silver Arrows driver started from the front row and finished in either first or second place. With a total of eight fastest race laps, he managed to further improve his performance in the DHL Fastest Lap Award over last season.
