Al termine delle qualifiche del GP di Cina, ecco le dichiarazioni di alcuni dei protagonisti, a partire dal poleman Nico Rosberg.
Nico Rosberg, 1:35.402, 1°: It’s great to have my first pole of the year. It’s always best to be able to start your race from the front and I’m very happy to have that opportunity again. Of course, it’s not good that Lewis’ car broke down and a shame that we couldn’t battle for pole. We definitely need to investigate this as a team but, in any case, I’m sure he will fight his way through the field tomorrow. I made a few mistakes on my first effort in Q3 but my final lap was pretty good. Saying that, Kimi said he made a mistake on his last lap, so with that in consideration I don’t believe the gap is as big as it seemed on the timesheet today. On Friday the Ferraris were on the same level as us, so we must be prepared for a strong challenge from the red cars. In the race we could see some surprises. There will be a lot of different strategies, so there’s a long way to go yet. But I’m feeling good in the car and looking forward to a battle.

Daniel Ricciardo, 2°: “I’m not sure where the speed came from. To be honest I didn’t think we started Q1 from the best position in terms of the balance, and it didn’t seem we would be in a fight for the front rows – but in Q3 we just found more speed. The supersoft can be tricky to manage here because it gets chewed up quite a bit, so between that and the engineers making a few adjustments we got a good package at the end. Second is pretty awesome – I didn’t expect this!”.

Kimi Raikkonen, 3°: Sono più deluso che altro, oggi avevamo la possibilità di ottenere un risultato migliore. Non so se la pole fosse possibile, ma avremmo potuto ottenere facilmente il secondo posto. Nella penultima curva sono andato largo e ho perso molto tempo. Dopo quel’errore sarebbe potuta andare molto peggio, ma abbiamo salvato la terza posizione che non è male per la gara. E’ difficile prevedere cosa accadrà domani, dipenderà da tanti fattori, dal meteo e dalle diverse tattiche delle squadre. In gara le cose cambiano, noi cercheremo di fare il massimo e di essere i più veloci. Vedremo dove ci questo ci porterà.

Sebastian Vettel, 4°: Non penso che oggi avrei meritato la prima fila. Abbiamo risparmiato le gomme, e domani partiremo con le Supersoft. Pensavo di potercela fare all’ultimo giro, ma il mio unico tentativo non è stato un granchè. Ho chiesto troppo alle gomme nella fase iniziale e ho commesso un paio di errori che mi sono costati parecchio tempo. Quindi in fin dei conti non ho fatto un gran bel giro, ma ormai è tardi per cambiare le cose. Nel complesso penso che finora qui sia andata bene per noi, e credo che domani possa andare ancora meglio. Abbiamo visto strategie diverse da squadra a squadra e questo sarà interessante. Forse riusciremo a scattare bene al semaforo, già in Australia avevamo fatto una buona partenza e magari possiamo ripeterla. Il nostro obiettivo è fare passi avanti rispetto a dove siamo oggi.

Carlos Sainz, 8°: “Sono contento della mia qualifica: oggi non avremmo potuto tirare fuori molto di più dalla vettura. Ho perso un po’ di tempo nell’ultimo settore, ma scattare dall’ottava posizione domani non è male: cercheremo di risalire durante la corsa. Tutto sommato, sono anche soddisfatto di aver finalmente messo insieme una buona qualifica, dall’inizio alla fine della sessione, perché in Australia e 
Bahrain non mi è stato possibile. Credo che la gara di domani sarà interessante dal punto di vista delle strategie. Io spero di poter lottare per dei buoni punti”.
Max Verstappen, 9°: “Penso che ci siamo qualificati in una posizione abbastanza buona per domani: entrare in Q3 è sempre una cosa positiva. Naturalmente, si spera sempre di fare ancora meglio, ma sfortunatamente oggi non è andato proprio tutto alla perfezione. Le condizioni della pista erano piuttosto difficili, la macchina sembrava comportarsi in modo un po’ diverso rispetto a ieri e la pista era scivolosa. Tuttavia, siamo in top 10 e non vedo l’ora di correre, domani”.
Fernando Alonso, 12°: “I think both Jenson and I could have got through to Q3 today: we had the pace, and we had been saving tyres and engine ready to go for it… until the red flag ended the session. It was massively frustrating not to be able to complete my final lap in Q2 – there really was a lot of potential in the car today. Let’s put it into further perspective: not too many races ago, we were just making it into Q2, now we’re frustrated not to be in Q3. That’s definitely a good direction in which to be heading. Finally, I slept like a baby last night: 10 hours without waking up once. Today I was full of energy. When I’m in the car, I still feel a small something through the corners and over the bumps, but I didn’t take any pain-killers today.”
Lewis Hamilton, 22°: Of course, it’s disappointing not to get out there today. It was going to be a tough weekend anyway with the grid penalty. But these things are sent to try us. No-one wants it easy – at least I know I don’t. We might be in the mud right now – but we’ll dig our way out. We’ve got a great car and the team are doing a great job. There are areas we can improve but it’s still early in the season and I know we’ll get there. It’s important that nobody lets their head drop. The best thing we can do is learn from it and move on. I’m sure the guys are just as gutted as I am – but what will be, will be. We win and lose together, so we’ll work hard to figure out what happened and try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. The positive news is that you can overtake here and the car is quick, so hopefully we can get it fixed for tomorrow and have a good race. I’ve been in this position before. I came from the back of the grid to the podium in Hungary two years ago, so anything is possible. The tyres don’t last as well here, so it’s perhaps not as simple as it was in that race. But, of course, I’ll give it everything I’ve got to try to get back up as far as I can. We’ll at least get into the points and then I’ll see what I can do from there. It’s never over until it’s over…
