A bitter weekend for Trulli Formula E in the Miami ePrix, seeing both drivers suffer from energy consumption troubles.
Vitantonio Liuzzi, P16: “I think I had a little too good of a time in the beginning following the pace of the others and really getting into the racing as the car had good pace and felt good. The problem was that five laps in, I got the message to slow down to regenerate as we were consuming too much energy. The rest of the race commenced like this, regenerating and saving battery to make sure we could finish. Then we had a problem in the pitstop as the second car didn’t start properly, we still have to understand why, so we didn’t have the easiest start in the second stint. Now we have to work with the team to understand why the energy consumption was so high in the beginning. Nevertheless, I’d like to say a big thank you to Jarno and his whole team for having me and for all of their su pport in getting me ready to race today. As for Formula E, a driver always have to be versatile and it was a really good experience. We’ll have to let the future decide if there will be more races in Formula E for me”.
Jarno Trulli, P15: “We struggled quite a lot with the battery, temperature, and consumption, which weren’t looking good even from the beginning. I had to slow down every lap as the consumption was going too high. So now we have to understand what we can do why and what we need to change. I’d like to thank my mechanics, engineers and rest of the team for their support, and of course the sponsors who make this fantastic team a reality. It was nice to give Viantonio a chance to drive our car and he drove brilliantly in practice, qualifying and the race, proving his high skill behind the wheel. Miami has been great, it’s a really nice city and we hope to be back next year”.
Lucio Cavuto, Team Principal: “It was a bitter weekend for us. We showed a lot of potential and good performance. Due to the lack of the usual practice, we didn’t manage to get the race configuration right and therefor we couldn’t achieve a better result. Vitantonio Liuzzi delivered an astonishing performance for us within such of a short time of free practice and without any experience at all on these kind of cars. He proved to be a quick, reliable and mature driver and exceeded beyond our expectations. We’d like to thank our sponsor Jihua for making the races happen, the mechanics and engineers who always make a good job, and last but not the least, the city of Miami for the warm welcome and a good atmosphere”.
